Graduate Admission Requirements
  1. Applicants for graduate study must have an accredited bachelor’s degree with an academic record at a level sufficient to qualify for full or provisional admission.
  2. Loading. need to be met for a graduate studies application to be evaluated for admission consideration.
  3. Additional requirements may apply depending upon the specific Loading. to which the applicant is offered admission. Additionally, requirements for a given program may differ or be higher, as specified by the concerned department.
  4. All credentials submitted must be in English, or alternatively, an official translation must be attached to the documents originally not issued in English.

Application Checklists For Master’s and Graduate Diploma Programs

For admission consideration, applicants are required to provide the following:

  1. Meeting the Loading.
  2. An online application for graduate studies
  3. Online payment of the application fee
  4. The selection of up to two graduate programs for which the admission application will be processed
  5. A statement of purpose (about 500 words for each graduate program selected) indicating the reasons for interest in the specific program, what you will bring as skills and/or experiences to the program, and how graduate studies fit in your long-term academic and professional objectives
  6. For the MIM/CEMS program, a letter of motivation should be submitted instead of a statement of purpose. The letter must address several key points as indicated in the application form
  7. An updated resume (CV) that must include work experience and educational background
  8. At least two online letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic or professional background
  9. Official academic records, including the final transcript of the bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, showing courses and grades, and proof of degree completion. The transcript and proof of degree completion need to have official stamps and signatures. An official enrollment certificate and/or the equivalency from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities may also be required. Original documents can be returned to the applicants at a later date
  10. Satisfactory English language proficiency test results (refer to the English language proficiency section below). Some AUC graduate programs require higher scores than others. While the validity of any of these English language proficiency examination tests is two years from the day of the exam, the results cannot be considered for graduate admission if the expiry date is before your first day of registered classes at AUC. Unofficial results are acceptable for processing purposes only, and original test results or official online access to results are required before final admission for verification
  11. Graduate students may be asked to demonstrate minimum competency in the use of computers and academic libraries as they relate to graduate study and research
  12. A clear copy of the valid national ID card (front and back) – Egyptian applicants only – must be submitted to complete the application
  13. A clear copy of the information pages of your passport – international applicants and Egyptian dual nationals – must be submitted to complete the application
  14. One recent passport-size photograph (a clear electronic copy)
  15. For the Master in Business Administration (MBA) program: The program highly recommends submitting satisfactory valid GMAT results, especially if applying for fellowship consideration (500 minimum)
  16. For the Master of Science in Finance (FINC) program, satisfactory valid GMAT or GRE results are not required but will enhance the application if satisfactory results are achieved.
  17. For the Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication (JRMC) program, non-edited writing samples
  18. For the Master of Arts in Philosophy (PHIL) program, a 1000-word writing sample to demonstrate critical thinking

Upon admission, applicants are required to provide the following:

  1. The official original final bachelor’s transcript with proof of degree completion: The transcript and graduation certificate must show clearly the stamps and signatures/watermarks where applicable. Applicants will be allowed to collect these originals at a later date when verified by the Office of Graduate Admissions
  2. Egyptian males only: The original military certificate (a valid, true copy can be made only at AUC's Student Service Center), and the original will be returned immediately
  3. Other requirements as deemed necessary for individual cases
  4. Students with disabilities who need accommodations should email our disability services at [email protected] before their arrival

Once on campus and by the end of the first week of classes:

  1. New international graduate students must submit two hard copy passport-size photos to the Office of Business Support for student visa purposes. Be sure to have your passport with you.
  2. New international graduate students must submit proof of health and accident insurance for the duration of their stay in Egypt.
  3. Students with special medical requirements or those who would prefer that the Medical Center be made aware of specific medical conditions/needs are advised to communicate these conditions and establish contact with the specialists at the clinic once on campus.
Application Checklists for Doctoral Programs

For admission consideration, applicants are required to provide the following:

  1. Meeting the Loading.
  2. An online application for graduate studies
  3. Online payment of the application fee
  4. The selection of up to two doctoral programs/concentrations for which the application will be processed
  5. A statement of purpose (no less than 500 words for each program/concentration requested). Indicate the reasons for interest in the specific program, what you will bring as skills and/or experiences to the program, and how graduate studies fit in your long-term academic and professional objectives
  6. Research interests and objectives (This is to be prepared as a separate document to the Statement of Purpose)
  7. The abstract of the completed master’s thesis
  8. An updated resume (CV) that must include work experience (if any) and educational background
  9. Official academic records, including the detailed final official transcript of the master’s degree from an accredited institution, showing courses and grades, and proof of degree completion. The transcript and proof of degree completion need to have official stamps and signatures. An official enrollment certificate and/or the equivalency from the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities may also be required. Original documents can be returned to the applicants at a later date
  10. The detailed final official transcript of the bachelor's degree showing courses and grades per semester, with proof of degree completion

Application Checklists for Graduate Non-Degree Programs
  1. Applicants not seeking an AUC degree but wishing to take AUC courses for academic credit may be admitted as non-degree, conditional they meet the minimum criteria for graduate admission.
  2. Several places are set aside each year for such students, most of whom take a year away from their studies at another institution to study and live in Egypt.
  3. Since AUC is a US-accredited institution following an American system, students from US universities can usually transfer AUC credits to their home institutions. Still, they are advised to check in advance.
  4. The University may approve a change of status from non-degree to degree student if the non-degree student applies for degree-seeking and is accepted to a degree-seeking program. If a non-degree graduate student should become a degree candidate, the department of major will consider accepting credit for courses taken under non-degree status, for up to a maximum of 9 graduate credit hours completed successfully, with a minimum average grade of B, within 5 years prior to the date of first registration as a degree-seeking student in the program of relevance. All academic regulations applicable to degree students will apply retroactively with the such status change.

Graduate non-degree paths include:

  1. Regular non-degree
  2. Exchange non-degree: Targeting to join AUC through an established exchange program between AUC and the applicant’s institution
  3. Study Abroad non-degree: Targeting to join AUC through an established Study Abroad agreement program between AUC and the applicant’s institution

For admission consideration, applicants are required to provide the following:

  4. Satisfactory English examination results (Refer to the English Language Proficiency section below). Non-degree-seeking applicants must attain at least the test score required for full admission to be accepted. While the validity of the English language proficiency examination is two years from the day of the exam, note that the results cannot be considered for graduate admission if the expiry date is before your first day of registered classes at AUC. Unofficial results are acceptable for processing purposes only, and original test results or official online access to results are required before final admission for verification

Additional requests for exchange and study abroad non-degree:

  1. Proof of nomination by the partner university
  2. Copy of the most recent graduate transcript from the partner university
  3. Proof of English proficiency in line with AUC graduate requirements

Additional requests for non-degree applicants to the MIM/CEMS program only:

  1. An updated resume (CV) that must include work experience and educational background
  2. Proof of healthcare with coverage of the stay in Egypt is to be submitted with the application

Upon admission, applicants are required to provide the following:

  1. Egyptian males only: the original military certificate. A valid, true copy can be made only at the Student Service Center, AUC. In this case, the original will be returned immediately.
  2. Possibly additional documents, as would be deemed necessary by the Office of Graduate Admissions for individual specific cases.

  1. To apply for admission to the graduate TLG program, you must complete and submit the graduate admission online form . Then you can apply for any fellowship after five working days from submitting the graduate admission online application form.

English Language Proficiency
  1. Applicants must demonstrate knowledge of adequate English language for graduate studies.
  2. For full admission to the University, graduate applicants must attain the required score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language ( International TOEFL, iBT ), the International English Language Testing System ( Academic IELTS ) examination, the Advanced or the Proficiency exams of the academic Cambridge Assessment English tests .   3. Degree-seeking applicants who do not attain the minimum test score required for full admission but are otherwise qualified for admission are placed in an English language course for further language study.
  4. Non-degree-seeking applicants must attain at least the test score required for full admission to be accepted.
  5. Applicants may submit results for more than one test as long as these are submitted within the approved admission evaluation deadlines. The highest of the valid scores will be considered for admission. Some graduate programs require higher cut-off scores for admission consideration.
  6. Graduate English modules are assigned based on these test scores.
  7. Possible exemptions from the English test may be allowed given specific conditions unless the applicants also apply for the African Graduate Fellowship, whereby English test results must be provided. Details of the possible exemptions are available Loading.

Remedial English language requirements

  1. Based on a graduate applicant’s performance in an approved English language proficiency test for admission , graduate students who are otherwise qualified for admission but whose English language proficiency does not meet the required level will be admitted to one of the following Intensive English courses (ELIN 0301 or ELIN 0302) or will be placed in the appropriate modules of Academic English for Graduates (ENGL 0310, ENGL 0311, ENGL 0312).
  2. Certain graduate programs, such as LLM, IHRJ, and psychology programs, do not allow students enrolled in remedial English language courses to register for program courses. Graduate students must check with their respective graduate programs about this.

Application Checklists for the Executive Master of Business Administration

  5. Proof of a minimum of eight years of work experience
  6. An updated resume (CV) that must include work experience and educational background
  7. A Letter of commitment from the financing organization indicating approval to allow the applicant to enroll in this program, with all its attendance requirements
  8. Official academic records, of which one must be a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with proof of degree completion. Original documents can be returned to the applicants at a later date
  9. Satisfactory English language proficiency test results. While the validity of any of these English language proficiency examination tests is two years from the day of the exam, the results cannot be considered for graduate admission if the expiry date is before your first day of registered classes at AUC. Only the following English tests are acceptable for admission consideration at AUC:

  1. International TOEFL scores with the writing component. Indicate your test date and registration number. The test results recipient code for AUC is 0903. The minimum acceptable iBT TOEFL scores are 79 for total and 21 for writing
  2. Academic IELTS , the International English Language Testing System. Indicate the test date and the Test Report Form (TRF) number. The minimum acceptable academic IELTS scores are 6.5 for total and 7 for writing
  3. Cambridge Assessment English. AUC accepts only Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE) or Cambridge English Advanced (CAE). Include the numbers required for online verification of results. The minimum acceptable Cambridge Assessment English scores are 176 for total and 185 for writing
  4. A clear copy of the valid national ID card (front and back) – Egyptian applicants only – must be submitted to complete the application.
  5. A clear copy of the information pages of your passport – international applicants and Egyptian dual nationals – must be submitted to complete the application
  6. One recent passport-size photograph (a clear electronic copy)
Entrance Examination
  1. The department of major may require applicants to sit for a graduate entrance examination, whose results will be considered at the time of admission
  2. The Department of Management recommends that MBA applicants sit for the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), especially if applying for fellowship consideration
  3. Applicants to the MS Finance program may choose to submit the GRE or GMAT exams to enhance their applications for admission consideration. Submitting test results is optional for this program
  4. Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language program may require an Arabic Language test based on the evaluation of the application
Admission Categories
  1. Categories of admission depend upon the applicant’s qualifications, status and study plan.
  2. Admission is either full or provisional. In rare instances, admission may also be conditional as well as full or provisional. For example, where original official documentation was not provided due to technical delays that could be verified, admitted students may receive conditional letters of admission with which they may attend the new graduate students orientation but will not be permitted to register for classes until the condition is met.

Dual Degree Studies
  1. Graduate students may pursue two distinct graduate degrees (a diploma and one master's or two master's or two graduate diplomas) in different departments simultaneously or consecutively.
  2. Academic regulations for dual degree studies are available Loading. .
  1. Those who wish to attend individual classes may apply as auditors; however, they may not sit for final examinations nor receive academic credit or any university certificate of enrolment.
  2. Auditors must not meet all requirements for regular admission but must apply to the Office of Graduate Admissions by the deadline.
  3. Since permission to audit is on a space-available basis, applicants are not permitted to register until after the registration of regular students has been completed.

Summer or Winter Admission
  1. There is no graduate admission in the winter sessions. Degree-seeking graduate admission applies only to the Fall and Spring semesters.
  2. Graduate non-degree applicants for the summer sessions should follow the application procedures for non-degree admission and submit their application forms by the Loading. set for the following semester.
